I have some confessions. My life at the moment is so imbalanced, busy and all over the place. I work tirelessly on My Beauty Campaign daily while still running my own photography business, while I am also a wife and mother to my 2 sweet children. Ironically, I got started with my photography business because I wanted to get better photos of my children, and I hardly ever shoot my children anymore! If I do, I just grab the point and shoot and get a quick snapshot. I have been so inspired by fellow photographer Aria Bethards and her constant beautiful, natural posts of her children in their everyday environment. And I just recently was so touched by a post from Suzanne Plant who posted her story and a video that I cried the whole way through. After watching this video, I was so moved and I knew the next day would not be the same.
I cleared my entire day, and put all work aside. I spent the entire day with my children. Now, I do this everyday…but I really spent the day with my kids. I spent every minute they were awake giving them my complete attention, and I always had my camera in my hand. I ignored my to do list and all the work that was calling me on the computer. I spent all day shooting them in their natural environment, in their everyday clothes (many times which they took off) with the messed up hair and snotty noses they have every day. And I loved it! There was no posing, no hair fixing, not fancy props or backdrops…just my kids. This was one of the best days I have ever had with my children, because all of me was with them. The crazy thing is this day, I got more done than I normally do when I try to work as much as I can throughout the day. I felt better, the kids were happier, and when I did sit down to work when they were asleep, I was much more productive. We will cherish these photos forever because they truly show who my children were on June 21st, 2011.
